248、that， which

that 和which 兩個詞都可以作關係代詞，引導從句，在定語從句中作主語或賓語。但兩詞在用法上存在著差異。

一、that多指物，有時也指人，而which只能指物，兩詞指物時在用法上大致相同。例如：

This is the irrigation system that (which) the peasants built last year. 這就是農民去年修的灌溉網。

I've read the newspaper that (which) carries the important editorial. 我已經看過登載那篇重要社論的報紙。

二、指物時，引導限定性定語從句用that或which，引導非限定性定語從句只能用which。例如：

Here is the book that (which) I told you about.這是我告訴過你的那本書。

Here is your book, which I have enjoyed very much.這是你的書，我很欣賞。

三、that作介詞賓語時，介詞不放在that之前，只能放在從句中原來的位置上，但which可以作介詞的賓語。例如：

Can you lend me the book that you were talking about the other day ? 你可以把你那天談的那本書借給我嗎？

Can you lend me the book about which you were talking the other day ? 你可以把你那天談的那本書借給我嗎？

四、先行詞被序數詞、形容詞最高階所修飾時，或者先行詞為all、everything、nothing、something、anything、little時，必須用that，不能用which。例如：

That's all (that) I know.我知道的就是這些。（that在這種句子中常省略掉）

Is there anything (that) I can do for you in town?有什麼事我可以在城裡幫你辦嗎？

The first thing (that) we should do is to work out a plan. 我們應該做的第一件事是制定出一個計劃。

That is the best film that I have ever seen.那是我所看過的電影中最好的一部。
