今天是國際護士節，一場疫情，我們見證了醫護人員的無私和付出。

雖然國內的疫情逐步穩定，但我們仍舊要做好防護，避免生病，增添醫護人員的壓力。

提到生病的英語，很多人可能首先會想到sick這個詞，比如“I feel sick”或“You look sick”。

但sick這個詞不能隨便亂用，不然老外聽了會誤解！

sick的多種用法

為什麼生病了不能隨便說 “sick”？先來看看下面這句話。

A：I feel sick. Where is the restroom?

如果將sick簡單理解成生病，這句話的翻譯就是“我生病了，廁所在哪裡？”

這多少有些莫名其妙，生病和廁所有什麼關係？

詞典上的sick有以下幾種解釋。

adj. 厭惡的；病態的；噁心的；生病的

n. 病人；嘔吐物

vt. 嘔吐；追擊

另外，sick還可以表示瘋狂、精神有問題，所以問別人 “Are you sick” 的時候會很容易讓別人誤解。

因此，如果沒有上下文和具體語境，sick很容易產生歧義，讓人分不清想表達的到底是什麼意思。

而sick表示“生病”的時候經常用進行時：

Are you feeling sick？

你生病了嗎？
